Dennis police save heart-attack victim

Wicked Local Dennis, Yarmouth Port, MA, Mon, 2009-07-06

Dennis Police Sgt. Peter Dimatteo credits Officers Robert Kurisko and Seth Richter with saving the life of a 71-year-old heart-attack victim shortly after noon on Saturday July 4.

Officers responded to a call from Diane’s Spa in West Dennis reporting that a man was suffering chest pains. When officers arrived, the man was in full cardiac arrest and they immediately began CPR. They continued treatment by administering a shock from an Automated External Defibrillator. Following the shock, the man opened his eyes and was responsive to the officers. He was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

Dimatteo credits the quick work of the officers and the availability of an AED for the successful resuscitation. All Dennis patrol vehicles are equipped with an AED through a cooperative effort with the Dennis Fire Department.
