Senior suffers heart attack at pub

Times Colonist, Victoria, Canada, Sun, 2009-11-08

Victoria police said a quick response might have saved a man’s life Sunday after he suffered a massive heart attack in Irish Times Pub.

The elderly man had just come into the downtown pub with his wife around 12:40 p.m., staff at Irish Times said, when he collapsed and went into cardiac arrest at the bottom of the staircase.

Police and Victoria fire officials arrived within minutes and started CPR. They deployed an automatic defibrillator until paramedics arrived and took over.

Staff Sgt. Darren Laur said the man is in hospital but his condition is unknown.

Irish Times manager Chloe Cameron said the staff is pretty shaken up.
