Philips brand AEDs operate on batteries only. Always have a fully charged spare available.

This is the Philips battery pack approved for aviation use in HeartStream/HeartStart FR2 and FR2+ AEDs. It's labeled with the FAA required Technical Service Order (TSO) C-142 designation. These battery packs have an extremely long shelf-life (measured in years) so having an extra one on hand is a great idea. This battery pack can be used on Philips AED models labeled M3840A, M3841A, M3860A, and M3861A only.

No reprogramming of the device is necessary to use this battery in an aircraft. Just insert it into your Philips Heartstart FR2 or FR2+ AEDs instead of the regular consumer battery pack and you're good-to-go! This battery comes with a 4-year factory warranty provided it is installed by the shelf-life date stated on the battery.

Part 91 Operators: If your aircraft is equipped with a Philips HeartStart FR2 or FR2+ AED, this battery is not mandatory but is recommended.
Part 135 Operators: If your aircraft is equipped with a Philips HeartStart FR2 or FR2+ AED, this battery is not mandatory but is highly recommended in the event of an FAA "ramp check."
Part 121 Operators: If your aircraft is equipped with a Philips HeartStart FR2 or FR2+ AED, this battery pack is mandatory.

Installation procedure

The Philips HeartStart FR2/FR2+ Aviation Battery is installed in the same method as any other battery pack for this device.

  1. Squeeze the yellow latch on the old battery pack to release and remove it from the AED.
  2. Make sure there are no electrode pads connected to the AED.
  3. Hold the new Philips Aviation Battery Pack by the yellow latch and carefully slide it in to the battery cavity at the top of the AED.
  4. Slide the new Philips Aviation Battery Pack into the AED until you feel and hear it click into place.

Once the battery is inserted, your Philips HeartStream/HeartStart FR2/FR2+ will automatically turn on allowing you to initiate a device self-test or perform other functions within the menu system. You'll know that your FR2/FR2+ AED is ready to use when you see the LCD hourglass symbol flashing in the device's self-test indicator window.

As usual, always refer to your AED's Operator's Manual for complete instructions.
